Is That Really Allowed?

Yes, it is! However - following all the directions in this FAQ is mandatory. Missing even a single step may lead to the suspension of your Boom selling account. Additionally, all items listed on other marketplaces or sites must also be listed on the Boom Learning site. Failure to publish to the Boom Learning site will result in an error "Oh no! A customer tried to redeem an invalid link". Publish the deck to resolve the error.

ALL USES NOT ALLOWED BY THIS FAQ ARE PROHIBITED. This is the law, but we are stating explicitly for those who are not lawyers. You may not embed Fast Pins, Previews, or Hyperplays without our express consent and a written agreement.

How Does Payment Work?

You are paid by the selling site according to their standard terms. You will owe Boom Learning a small service fee according to our Payment Schedule. We will track what you owe and deduct it from your payouts and/or invoice you if you owe more than we are due to pay you. We STRONGLY recommend that you encourage all purchasers to redeem decks within 30 days of purchase in your materials.

Please note - we do not discount redemptions fees for discounted sales such as volume licenses or participation in subscription product. Make sure you only include redemption links in external products for which you can afford the associated redemption service fee after all discounts.

Also note - if your price on Boom is zero points (aka $0) you will not be charged a service fee.

Will My Customers Need to Buy a Membership?

Your customers will need to create an account if they do not have one. We do not collect any credit card information from your customers when they come from other marketplaces.

We offer customers new to Boom Learning a free trial. At the end of the free trial, the membership will expire unless the user proactively chooses to purchase a paid membership.

Pricing and Bundling

Bundling is allowed

You can list a Boom Cards product by itself or you can create a mixed bundle that includes Boom Cards and other products you sell.

You set the price

It does not need to be the same price you use on Boom Cards; however, your buyer will see your Boom Cards price if they search the Boom Cards Store. You should be aware that if the item is not published in the Boom Store, the redemption will fail. Your service fees are based on the Boom Cards Store price.

Create your External Product to List

You'll Need a BoomURL

If you don't have one, make a branded BoomURL first. See instructions here.

Create a Product PDF

Using a tool of your choice (such as Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, or Keynote), create a .pdf about the product that the user will download after purchase. See the example attached to the bottom of this FAQ.

  • Include an image or text that instructs the user to "Click Here to Redeem Your Boom Cards" (or similar text).
  • Embed your listing URL in the image or text in your Product .pdf.  Do not post the listing URL in plaintext.

Where to Find Listing URLS for Single Decks

Go to Studio, click on your deck to open it in the editor, and then go to Details.

You can also access this by clicking "Quick Edit" in the top right corner of your deck's store page.

Choose TpT/Other and click on "List on other marketplaces". To unlock access to the URL's, you'll need to have your deck published to your store.

For TPT choose the "Secret TpT URL". This URL may only be used for TPT. Using it on other sites can result in the suspension of your seller account. For special promotions and giveaways, see Short Term Promotions.

For other sites or markets (blogs, etc), choose the "Secret market URL".

Where to Find Listing URLs for Bundles

Go to Studio, select Bundles, and choose "Apply to Sell on Third-Party Sites". Once you have applied, finish creating the bundle.

To retrieve the URL for a bundle, you'll first need to unpublish the bundle from your store (don't worry, this won't affect anyone who has downloaded your bundle in the past).

After you have unpublished your bundle, click on "List in other marketplaces" at the bottom of the editing bundle page. Select the Listing URL for the site you plan to sell on. If you need a URL other than those listed, send us a message and we'll review whether we can add it. You must use the correct URL for the correct site. For TPT, if you use the TPT bundle tool, put the bundle link in a bonus file. In your description explain to users that they should open the bonus file to get one-click fulfillment of the bundle. Bundle links get Complete My Bundle credits. Use of the TPT bundle tool is at your own risk-many buyers click the individual links instead of the bundle link. We recommend that you do not use the TPT bundle tool and instead create a bundle product with only the bundle link.

After you have grabbed the link for your bundle, republish it to your store. You can now distribute your bundle link as needed.

Always test your URLs

Check your links and make sure they open properly and redeem the correct product. If your link does not work properly, these instructions may help. Mac Users may also need to check that article to create a clickable link.

Do not post the Listing URL in plaintext

Using a file instead of the bare link gives you a basis to request that the file be pulled if it is posted publicly. Additionally, an embedded URL will always take your customer to the correct Boom resource. If the customer can read, type, and copy the URL, they may make a mistake and become frustrated that your product appears not to work.

Optionally, dress up your Product Listing with logos and badges.

Using our logos is NEVER REQUIRED. It is always optional. However, if you do use our logos you are responsible for strictly following the rules for using them found here. We are required to take enforcement action against deviations from the rules to preserve our trademark rights.

List Boom Cards as “Internet Activities” On TPT

When you choose the Listing Type, include “Internet Activities” as one of your Listing Types. You may also add a custom "Boom Cards" category. Add additional Listing Types as appropriate.

Listing Description

So there are no surprises for your customers, your description must include this text (sellers on French sites must provide a translated version):

To use Boom Cards, you must be connected to the Internet. Boom Cards play on modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge). Apps are available for modern Android, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires. For security and privacy, adults must have an account to use and assign Boom Cards. You will be able to assign the Boom Cards you are buying with "Fast Pins," (a form of play that gives instant feedback to students for self-grading Boom Cards). For assignment options that report student progress back to you, you will need to purchase a subscription. If you are new to Boom, you will be offered a free trial. Read here for details: http://bit.ly/BoomTrial.

If you are posting to a site that does not allow you to refer to a digital subscription (such as Facebook), use this variation:

To use Boom Cards, you must be connected to the Internet. Boom Cards play on modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge). Apps are available for modern Android, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires. For security and privacy, adults must have an account to use and assign Boom Cards. You will be able to assign the Boom Cards you are buying with "Fast Pins," (a form of play that gives instant feedback to students for self-grading Boom Cards).

Preview

Include at least one screenshot of one of the cards from your Boom Cards deck. Also, copy/paste the “preview” URL for your Deck. The preview link is the green link in the TPT/OTHER tab. Tell buyers it takes them to a playable preview.

You may include with your preview this short blurb:

"You may be eligible for a free trial. If you choose not to stay on a paid subscription account after your free trial you will still be able to assign Boom Cards to your students using Fast Play pins. You will not be charged when your free trial expires. For limits and conditions see: http://bit.ly/BoomTrial."

Best Practice for Offsite Subscriptions

If you offer an offsite subscription that includes Boom Cards our recommended best practice is to

  1. Create a bundle with your subscription items.
    1. All bundles are automatically growing bundles.
    2. All bundles automatically benefit from Complete My Bundle credits
  2. Use the Other or Personal Blog link for your bundle. This creates a unique link for just that site to help with tracking.
  3. Give your customers information on what to enter. For example you might instruct your customers to enter
    1. Marketplace = MY SUBSCRIPTION WEBSITE
    2. Purchase Date = Date you bought your subscription
    3. Order Number = MY GREAT SUBSCRIPTION
  4. You can create new bundles from time to time to remove access for older accounts. Clone your bundle and turn off external links for expired bundles.
