Cookie Policy

Effective March 25, 2020 (see archived policies).

Who We Mean By “Our” and “We”

When we say “our” or “we”, we mean us, Boom Learning (a trade name of Omega Labs Inc.) and the third-parties we contract with to provide us services. This Cookie Policy is part of our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Cookies are Byte-Sized Morsels of Data

Cookies are chunks of data stored in your web browser when you use a site. You can’t eat them. They are not yummy. Some of our cookies evaporate when you leave our site (session cookies); but others go home with you (persistent cookies). Many of our cookies are anonymous and do not deliver personal data to us that is associated with an online identifier. Some of our cookies deliver personal data necessary for our Services to function.

These cookies are necessary to provide you with our Services, including access to secure areas. Because these cookies are strictly necessary to deliver the websites, you cannot refuse them without impacting how our Services function.

We use these cookies to do remember who you are and to improve our services. Sample uses include remembering who you are, which resources you put in your shopping cart, which resource or page you or a particular student is working on, taking payment, and providing customer support. We use Paypal, QuickBooks and Stripe to process payments. They use cookies to process your information. The cookie placed, if any, will depend on the payment processor you choose. Such cookies are essential for processing payments. You can always pay by check instead.

Functional Optional Third-Party Cookies

We use these services to improve our services and make the experience better for you. Some may set a cookie. You can manage these cookies using your browser settings. Some Boom Cards resources contain video hosted by Vimeo or YouTube. If you assign one of these resources, it will result in the placement of a cookie by the video hosting service. You can avoid the setting of the cookie by not playing the video. If you choose to assign a deck with a YouTube video to students, you should accept the “no cookie” cookie as it blocks the serving of ads.

How Do We Serve Cookies?

You come to our site, we tell you we serve cookies. Most of the cookies are essential. If you use our site, we must serve these to you. Optional functional third-party cookies can be avoided by not using the optional service.

Who Serves the Cookies

Some cookies are placed by our business partners to help them help us. These are placed by our partners Freshdesk (customer support) and Meteor (our web app hosting provider). The fancy pants way of saying this is that cookies set by Boom Learning are “first-party cookies” and cookies set by our partners are “third-party cookies.”

Third-party cookies can recognize your device when it visits our site. If you choose Facebook or Google authentication, you are giving them information. Depending on your agreements with them, they may follow you around to other websites or services in their efforts to serve you interest-based advertising. You can opt out of interest-based tracking from our optional functional partners through their privacy controls and by participating in one of these Opt-Out Programs:

If you want more control over your cookie consumption, you can open the settings in your browser (you may need to open “advanced settings”) and look for “Cookies”. Options can range from clearing out cookies at the end of each browser session, to refusing all cookies, to refusing only third-party cookies, or only allowing cookies for some sites. If you choose not to accept essential cookies from us, please understand that Boom won’t work. If you want to get the nitty-gritty on cookies, check out AboutCookies.org.

How often will we update this Cookie Policy?

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to the cookies we use or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. Please visit this Cookie Policy regularly to stay informed about our use of cookies and related technologies. The date at the top of this Cookie Policy indicates when it was last updated and where to find archived versions.
